THE camera phone has become a necessary accessory of the modern
Filipino.
The recent Sony Ericsson Top Shot
competition’s call for spontaneous, amusing and extraordinary
snapshots was enthusiastically patronized by Filipinos from all
walks of life, leading to an avalanche of over 1,500 entries from
all over the country.
Sony Ericsson compiled the
entries and divided these into several categories to find out what
kind of subjects or situations Filipinos are most fond of capturing.
From landscapes to self-portraits, animals to dramatic
representations, some of the Top Shot’s most interesting
photographs reflect the Filipino’s love for the land, himself and
his pets, his friends, his compassion, creativity and wry sense of
humor. Photos of kids also ranked very high among the entries.
In the end, it was Joel Ng’s
Who U? photo that capped the Top Shot plum! The Naga City resident
“caught this monkey checking out his own reflection, probably
wondering who was looking right back at him.” The sight was funny,
spontaneous and fit exactly what the Sony Ericsson Top Shot photo
competition was asking for.
A close second was Ian Vincent
Reyes’s Shadow Basketball. “My brother and I were playing
basketball one afternoon when we saw this opportunity for a unique
shot,” explained Reyes.
The winners will be competing
with other entries from the region to determine theAsia-Pacific Top
Shot grand winner.
