13 more athletes earn SEAG slots

By Emil Noguera, Correspondent

THE Southeast Asian Games Task Force approved on Friday the inclusion of 13 more athletes in the RP delegation going to the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.

Task Force co-chairman Richie Garcia said six tracksters, four cyclists and three muay thai fighters successfully passed the qualifying standard of the oversight committee.

“We now have 530 athletes in the delegation. But we expect the number to increase because some national sports associations are scheduled to hold their qualifying next week,” said Garcia, also a commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission.

The six athletes who qualified for the biennial meet are tracksters Sheena Atilano, Benigno Marayag, Alex Gabito, Johnnie Vinas, John Rey Barrios and Esmeraldo Pacheco, cyclists Lloyd Reynante, Ronald Burantes, Julius Bonso and Irish Valenzuela, and muay fighters Anna Joy Fernandez, Anna Rey and May Libao.

Athletics will have another eliminations on September 29 and 30 while weightlifting will conduct a qualifying tournament on September 28
