HIGH ON E(TIQUETTE)
By Patty Betita
Travel easy, travel light

OVER the years, whenever I travel, I would always end up over-packed. I have a tendency to bring too much clothes, shoes, bags, perfumes and toiletries because I always have this belief that it is better to load up and be prepared, than get to your destination and regret not bringing something that you have to use.

Recently, while watching an episode of Martha Stewart where she had Matt Lauer as guest, I was drawn to the segment when Lauer was giving the audience tips on how to travel light. I was so amazed at how organized and systematic he was, sharing smart tips on how to travel light and easy.

Traveling light has all sorts of advantages especially when flying. Funny, how can you get away from it all, when you take everything along with you anyway?

I learned a lot from those few minutes watching that segment and I would like to share some of the travel and packing tips with you.

• Pick out one piece of luggage you plan to take along and another small to medium size for your hand carry. It is easier to start when you know just how much space you have to work with.

• When packing, leave by this credo: “when in doubt, leave it out.” Things like a bottle of shampoo, body wash or lotion, can easily be bought at your place of destination. It would also be smart to transfer them into smaller containers so it doesn’t add weight and bulk to your luggage. If you are staying at a hotel, you are assured these items are provided.

• Check the weather report of your destination. If you are going to be in Bali for a week with nothing but sunshine in the forecast, you probably won’t need long sleeved shirts or long pants.

• Limit yourself to two pairs of shoes, including the one you are wearing. Nobody needs, four to five or even six pairs of shoes on a trip. It is totally unnecessary.

• On a long getaway or a business trip that will require you to bring brochures for a convention, think about shipping some things ahead of time.

I was looking for a toiletry bag that was waterproof, had a lined main compartment, and had assorted pockets and compartments to keep everything organized, and I found a perfect toiletry bag for all my needs. The eagle creek toiletry bag and kit that I discovered at Travel Club.

Once you get into the habit of traveling light, you will realize that traveling can be truly wonderful.
