AFTER receiving reports that
there are policemen frequenting nightclubs and bars while on duty,
the Philippine National Police (PNP) has decided to conduct stricter
monitoring of its personnel deployment especially during night time.
Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, PNP
spokesman, said in a news forum that they will check reports of
police officers having a good time in bars and nightclubs during
their official duty time, hence reneging on their work to protect
citizens. The reports pointed to some members of the Southern Police
District who are often seen inside nightclubs along Roxas Boulevard
and “having the time of their lives.”
However, Pagdilao said it will be
difficult for a police officer to commit such acts because every PNP
regional and district office has a monitoring system that will make
sure their personnel are in their area of assignment.
He added the decrease in crime
statistics is proof that police visibility and crime efforts of the
police force to prevent crime has been very effective despite the
PNP having numbers below the ideal police to population ratio.
While the PNP is set to conduct
stricter monitoring on personnel deployment, there are a few
policemen who have already been caught having a good time.
Administrative charges were filed
against the police officers for violating a PNP memorandum that
prohibits policemen from going to nightclubs, beer houses and
cockpit arenas.
