IN AN effort to upgrade coaches and trainers in the
countryside, the Philippine Sports Commission will launch the
Grassroots Coaches Accreditation System program next month.
The program, to be conducted by
the PSC-Philippine Sports Institute, will be held on October 17 to
23 at the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City for coaches from the
Visayas while the schedules for Luzon and Mindanao are yet to be
finalized.
“PSC-PSI would like to ensure
that the national sports development of the country is run or
facilitated by well-trained, internationally-competent sports
mentors and coaches, after all,” said PSC-PSI director Marilou
Cantancio.
Cantancio said the program, which
aims to enhance the knowledge and experience of grassroots coaches
about the general education on sports, sports science and sports
medicine, offers 220 scholarship grants.
“Coaching education is
envisioned to address the critical dearth among trainers and
coaches,” said PSC chairman Butch Ramirez.
The program has three levels. The
first is a five-day training on multi-discipline general education
sports, second is a seven-day training and certificate program on
various disciplines under sports medicine and sports science while
the third is a five-day immersion in the field of sports the scholar
opted to be an expert of, guided by the country’s training pool.
Participants must pass 75 percent
of the examination in each level to qualify for the next level.
