THE Bureau of Customs is gearing to meet its revenue collection
target for the first quarter of the year by reshuffling its
poor-performing section chiefs.
Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales said the
reshuffle would take effect immediately once the bureau is done with
the consolidation of the March collection reports.
“I will be relieving nonperforming appraisers
and examiners immediately so as not to derail our revenue generating
drive,” Morales told reporters.
The Customs commissioner said that he already
met with section chiefs of the Manila International Container Port
and revealed that the sub-par employees will be replaced by more
qualified ones.
“This is just the first stage of shaping up
our workforce. We have to do our job well so as to raise the
collections,” he said.
Morales disclosed that the reshuffle would
largely affect the section chiefs, while the district level officers
are next in line. Those people who will be relieved will be
reassigned to less sensitive positions.
“We need performers to ensure the bureau’s
giving the best service to the people,” Morales said.
