LETTERS

Will it ever end?

The Senate investigation on the ZTE broadband deal seems to be turning out into fun fair rather than a major deliberation. First, they were slammed by the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of CHED Secretary Neri’s petition on executive privilege and now there was a no show of supposed key witnesses that would have supposedly corroborated the statements of star witness Jun Lozada.

Our senators should realize by now that their probe is heading nowhere because the people are seeing the real intentions behind the investigations’ facade. Further dwelling into the NBN hearing would only sidetrack other issues that need attention such as the RP baseline bill as well as the national budget. I appeal to our honorable senators to focus on these important issues first and stop wasting people’s money on the senseless ZTE hearings.

Thanks, Dan Mariano

This is for Dan Mariano and about his March 31, 2008, opinion piece entitled “System of rice intensification”

I am writing to you from Root Capital, a nonprofit social investment fund based in the United States that provides credit and financial education to grassroots businesses in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Our objective is to promote economic and social development in an environmentally-responsible way.

We are looking to invest in SRI rice in the Philippines and would greatly appreciate it if you could put us in touch with Robert Verzola and any producer groups that are currently growing SRI rice.

Thank you very much for your help. Together, hopefully we can make SRI adoption a reality!

I admire your courage in standing up for our president. Wow! Inspite of the fact that she’s being “chased from pillar to post” by complainers and disgruntled elements, she continues to stand tall in the eyes of the public. As they say here, it is not how tall or short you are, but what you have above your shoulders. We Pinoys in the US, expats, are tired of and fed up too with all the negative news we get from the “drive by media” (Rush Limbaugh’s words), but I think Secretary Ermita is right that behind all of these demonstrations is jealousy of GMA’s success in the eco-nomic, political, and social fields. Your listing of GMA’s positive attributes is refreshing and inspiring. You are one of the few columnists I greatly admire. Mabuhay GMA!
