Orcollo wins first match

DENNIS ORCOLLO warmed up for his critical duel opposite nemesis Yang Ching-Shun with a 9-7 victory over Ricky Yang of Indonesia Friday in the 2nd leg of the 2008 Guinness Asian 9-Ball Tour at the G Hotel in Penang, Malaysia.

A victory over Yang would give Orcollo a spot in the knockout round beginning Saturday.

Former world champion Alex Pagulayan took a different route in the preliminary round, losing to Vietnamese Luong Chi-Dong, 7-9. A victory by Luong against Korean Ryu Seong Woo would eliminate Pagulayan in the race.

The other Filipinos in the field—Antonio Gabica and Joven Bustamante—were playing at press time.

Gabica, whose campaign is supported by the Philippine Billiard Development Foundation, is in Group B with Ibrahim Bin Amir of Malaysia and Bernard Tey of Singapore while Bustamante is in Group H with Naoyuki Oi of Japan and Sumit Talwar of India.
