BEIJING: An envoy of the Dalai Lama urged Beijing to cancel
“provocative” plans to run the Olympic torch relay through
Tibet, but China promptly dismissed his call Friday as a bid to
sabotage the Games.
Lodi Gyari, an envoy of exiled Tibetan spiritual
leader the Dalai Lama, told a US Congressional hearing on Thursday
that Beijing’s communist leaders should abandon plans to bring the
Olympic flame through Tibet.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian activists and opposition leaders on Friday
called for former premier Mahathir Mohamad to be charged in court
for abuse of power during his 22-year reign.
SEOUL: North Korea has asked China to provide massive food aid for
its hungry people amid a flare-up in tensions with former major
donor South Korea, a news report said Friday.
BUCHAREST: NATO and Russia have concluded a key agreement on
the land transit of non-military freight destined for Afghanistan
and will endorse it Friday, a NATO spokeswoman said.
