POOK Agoncillo of Batangas pulled off a stunning 10-6 reversal over
perennial favorite Zamboanga City in the Major League (11-12)
division of the 2008 Little League Philippine Series on Sunday at
the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City.
Trailing 2-5 after five completed innings, Pook
Agoncillo rattled in four runs each in the sixth and seventh frame
to prevail.
Agoncillo’s second team also won, needing only
four innings to conquer Pasig City, 21-7.
Defending Major League champion International
Little League Association of Manila started its title-retention bid
with a 15-5 rout of Camarines Norte.
Other opening-day winners were host Muntinlupa,
Tanauan City, Ilocos Norte, Northern Samar, Los Banos, Palayan City,
Batangas, Cavite, Marikina City and Antipolo City.
Little League district administrator Jolly Gomez
and Muntinlupa Mayor Aldrin San Pedro were joined by special guests
Samar Gov. Raul Daza, Manila Councilor Che Borromeo, former Manila
Charter president Robert Evangelista and baseball association head
Hector Navasero during the opening ceremony.
