Noli Aurilio’s Meanderings: The Prelude was finally
released last year. It was co-produced by Louie Talan, bassist of
Razorback.
Accompanying him on the
album are Rommel dela Cruz of Barbie’s Cradle on bass, Rannie
Raymundo (yes, the celebrity) on drums, percussionist Budeths of
Pinikpika and keyboardist Elhmir Saison. “Rannie plays mean
drums,” attests Aurillio. In sharp contrast to some of his live
performances, some of the compositions on his first album are
remarkably straightforward. Its most stirring tracts are mellow and
melodic.
He explains, “My album is
an attempt not to be inside the box.”
And the album is just the first
salvo of the guitar slinger. The guitarist reveals that it is but
the first in a project involving four more albums. It remains to be
seen how this album fits with his epic effort.
By itself, the album is pleasure
to listen to and is essential to any collection of guitar legends
such as those by Jun Lupito, Wally Gonzalez and others.
