The Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday that
the mutilated torso of a woman found in an apartment in Tokyo’s
Odiba district on Thursday, April 3, could be a Filipina. However,
Japanese police already uncovered the identity of the victim, who
was identified as Honiefaith Ratilla Kamiosawa.
According to Japanese news
agencies, the dismembered torso is believed to be that of a missing
Filipino woman. Local media reported that the victim, a food service
worker in the Roppongi entertainment district, was cut into more
than 10 pieces that were put into plastic bags inside a suitcase in
the locker, but her head had not yet been found.
Philippine Ambassador to Japan,
Domingo Siazon, Jr. said that the embassy is currently coordinating
with the Tokyo police in the investigation.
The suspected victim could be the
22-year old Filipina who lived with her female cousin, and another
compatriot in the apartment where the mutilated body parts were
found.
However, Japanese police said
Monday they had arrested Hiroshi Nozaki, 48, on suspicion of
mutilating the body of 22-year-old Honiefaith earlier this month.
Police said the victim’s
co-worker had reported seeing the man with part of the dismembered
body at an apartmeont that the three shared in Tokyo.
“The co-worker thought it was
suspicious that the victim did not turn up at work. She went to the
apartment, where she saw the human body pieces,” a police
spokesman said.
Nozaki was taken into custody
late Sunday, after trying to commit suicide on a street in a Tokyo
suburb by slitting his wrist, police said.
