Manila’s pitchers too strong
for Muntinlupa in Little League

Jenny Pangilinan, a rookie hurler from Tondo, and veteran Felixwinda Custodio starved host Muntinlupa City with a measly hit in Team Manila’s regulation, five-inning 10-0 shut out victory in the Big League (14-16) girls’ softball division of the 2008 Little League Philippine Series on Monday at the Alabang Country Club.

Pangilinan, an 18-year-old pride of squatter haven Smokey Mountain in Tondo pitched a no-hit, no-run four-inning start and Custodio saving her teammate’s feat by yielding only a connection as the Golden Girls of Manila Charter President, Councilor Che Borromeo served notice of their serious bid to win back the title they won thrice since 2001.

A four-run, three-hit right at the top of the first frame, highlighted by a double each by shortstop Maricar Barrientos and second base girl Elena Parojinog was all the Manilenyas needed to start their campaign on a bright note.

Not to be outdone, defending Big League champion International Little League Association of the Manila lasses exerted just enough effort in blanking Bacolod City, 4-0.

Five teams in the centerpiece Major League (11-12) boys’ baseball class cruised to their second straight victory each with Ilocos Norte leading the assault in a regulation 21-2 outclassing of Camarines Sur, and Tanauan City duplicating the feat with a 6-0 shutting out of Makati City.

Also scoring their second win in as many outings were Marikina City which overwhelmed Taguig city, 14-3; Muntinlupa City doing the same to Sta. Cruz of Laguna, 12-1; and Palayana City of Nueva Ecija dropping early winner Agoncillo of Batangas, 17-6.

Also marching triumphantly in the Major League category were Lipa City, which dumped Bataan, 16-3; and Talisay City making mince medat of Bacolod West, 14-4, in a contest between two Negros Occidental campaigners.

The Big League boys baseball action saw Palayan City beating Talisay, 6-4; and title defending ILLAM disposing off Batangas,s 7-0.

Palayan, likewise, emerged winner in Senior League (14-16) girls’ softball with a 15-4 annihilation of Makati, while Bacolod West avenging its Senior League loss earlier with a 4-3 win over Muntinlupa.

Tanauan City blanked Camarines Norte, 2-0, in Senior League baseball and Muntinlupa joining it in the winners’ circle in the division with an easy 11-1 triumph over Northern Samar.
