Rivera maintains lead


World Masters champion Biboy Rivera sustained his brilliant form late Sunday to remain on top of the men’s singles Open in the 19th TBAM-Prima Pasta National Open and Youth Championships at the Green Valley Country Club in Pasig City.

Rivera, playing in his first tournament after a knee surgery last January, rolled games of 265, 254 and 252 for a total of 771. Jeff Chan tallied 756 (258-270-228) for second followed by Chester King with 722.

Rivera, who will leave next week for England, rolled games of 247 and 246 while Mark Ho scored 395 (194-201) to stay at second in the doubles with 814 pinfalls.

World Cup veteran Paulo Valdez had a series of 493 (247-246) and King rolled 388 (163-225) to take the lead with 881.

Glenn Rowland (399) and Angelo Constantino (395) tallied 794 for third.

In the ladies doubles, Bong Coo and Gina Avecilla of MBA-Timberpro tallied 864 to grab the lead. Eve Lombos and Rory Villena of PBA submitted 846 for second followed by Lou Laforteza and Yoly Araullo. who combined for 844.

In the team event, RP squad’s Nico Valderrama, Raoul Miranda and Frederick Ong tallied 1363 to pace the Class O division.

Prima, bannered by four-time World Cup champion Paeng Nepomuceno, tallied 1336 for second place while the trio of Kenneth Chua, Ederick Florencio and Jayson Tubid submitted 1280 to remain at third.
