Razon sees dismissal of kidnapping charges

PHILIPPINE National Police Chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. is confident that the kidnapping and attempted murder charges filed against him and several others by broadband scandal witness, Rodolfo Lozada Jr.. would be dismissed for lack of merit and evidence.

“He [Lozada] was not kidnapped. He was only secured and protected on request of [Environment] Secretary [Lito] Atienza. There is no truth to his claim.” Razon told reporters after he filed his counter-affidavit at the Department of Justice Tuesday.

Razon said Lozada may go on with his tale of lies but the truth would eventually come out during the course of the investigation.

Lozada filed the case before the Justice department following his claim that he was abducted by government authorities upon his arrival at the airport from Hongkong last Feb. 5.

But counsel for Razon, Lawyer Felisberto Verano, said the charges against his client would go nowhere as the elements of kidnapping were simply absent in the case. “There was no kidnapping. He was free to move around, he was not restrained. He was free to use his cellphone,” Verano told reporters.

He added that Lozada’s claim of kidnapping was nothing but “embellishment” to attract the sympathy and support of the public.
