PUERTO PRINCESA: The host team served notice of its intention to
regain the overall crown with a superb opening day effort in the
2008 MIMAROPA Regional Meet.
PPC collected three of the four gold medals at
stake in lawn tennis at the refurbished Ramon V. Mitra Jr. Sports
Complex in Barangay Sta. Monica.
April Santos and Cherry Mae Gilongos overpowered
Cyril Garado and Krystyll Oyan Orpilla of Palawan, 2-0, in the
secondary girls’ team competition.
Alexis Philipp Blanza and Michael Ernie
Rodriguez followed suit by winning the gold in the elementary
boys’ team competition via a similar 2-0 shutout of Palawan.
The third gold came from Krizhelle Sampatan and
Alexis Oquendo from the elementary girls’ team competition. They
also blanked Palawan in the finals, 2-0.
The PPC’s secondary boys team of Jaime Benito
Prieto and John Timbancaya lost to Mindoro Oriental, 1-2, to settle
for the silver medal in the team event.
Over at the Palawan National School Alfred Abueg
Sr. gymnasium, the PPC elementary boys’ table tennis team showed a
lot of promise by blanking Mindoro Occidental, 3-0.
The PPC high school baseball team, meanwhile,
escaped with a 3-2 win over Romblon at the Palawan National School
Diamond.
It made up for the loss of the PPC basketball
team to its counterpart from Mindoro Oriental, 49-60, at the Paleco
Covered Court.
