Rivera sustains fiery form

 
WORLD Masters champion Biboy Rivera tallied 1621 pinfalls Monday to keep the lead in the men’s Class O all-events of the 19th TBAM-Prima Pasta National Open and Youth Championships at the Green Valley Country Club in Pasig City.

Rivera, who teamed up with Liza del Rosario to win the silver in the 2007 SEAG, scored 771 in the singles, 419 in the doubles and 431 in the team event.

Paulo Valdez, a World Cup veteran, tallied 1575 (655-493-427) for second place while Chester King was third with 1544 (722-388-434).

MBA’s Gina Avecilla scored 507 in the singles, 330 in the doubles and 379 in the team event for a total of 1496 pinfalls to lead the ladies mixed class. Other leaders were Danny Tuazon (1503) in the men’s Class A and John Tiongson (1490) in the men’s Class B.

Meanwhile, Lara Posadas tallied 694 (221-210-233) to grab the ladies mixed singles lead from Liza Vicente, who had a series of 220,186 and 215 for a total of 690 pinfalls. Amielyn Sisperez was third with 675 (214-187-214).

In the men’s doubles, SLETBA’s Daboy Mendoza and Mil Tan tallied 822 to lead the Class B division. TBAM-Prima’s Kendal Dumaran and Renz Taylo were second with 804 while SLETBA’s Ted Victorino and Fred Martinez placed third with 795.

In the ladies mixed doubles, national players Dyan Coronacion and Kim Lao combined for 867 pinfalls to wrest the lead from MBA-Timberpro’s Bong Coo and Gina Avecilla, who tallied 864. PBA’s Eve Lombos and Rory Villena dropped to third with 846.

In the team event, PSB’s Francis Manalaysay, Lino Lim and Danny Tuazon submitted 1236 pinfalls to take the Class A lead while PBA’s Angelo Constantino, John Tiongson and Mike Robles were second with 1246 followed by PSB’s Philip Rillorta, George Ongkeko and Steve Robles with 1237.

Buddy Buddies, composed of Mark Rillorta, Paolo Darroca and Danny Tuazon, tallied 1194 to pace Class B while MBA-Timberpo’s Gina Avecilla, Jingay Facuri and Bong Coo submitted 1315 to lead the ladies mixed category.
