Neil Raneses scored a career-high 29 points while veteran Eric dela
Cuesta continued to sizzle as San Mig Coffee got back at Bacchus
Energy Drink, 86-82, in the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup Tuesday
at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
With de la Cuesta hitting 11 points on three
triples and Raneses adding 10 right in the first 10 minutes, the
Coffee Kings notched their second straight win to tie Noosa Shoes
for fifth and sixth places at 4-5.
In what could be his best game so far since
joining the league in 2004, the 6-foot-4 Raneses finished with an
impressive 11-of-20 shooting, including 3-of-6 from the
trifectaville to eclipse his previous high of 19 points which set
last March 6 against Pharex.
He also had 8 rebounds, 2 steals and two blocks
to underscore his return to top form following a forgettable stint
in the pro league where he was used sparingly during a two-year
stint with Coca Cola.
Despite his brilliant showing, Raneses still
refused to take the credit for the team’s win. Instead, he pointed
to de la Cuesta as the team lucky charm.
The Coffee Kings went a 2-of-2 since de la
Cuesta was signed up by the team last week.
In a fitting follow-up to his 17-point
performance in their win over Pharex last Thursday, de la Cuesta
wound up with 22 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the 3-point zone. He
also dished out five assists and plucked down the same number of
rebounds.
“We’re winning because of the leadership of
Erick,” said Raneses.
