THE city government of Makati is considering
filing appropriate charges against Metropolitan Manila Development
Authority (MMDA) officials responsible for installing tarpaulin
posters of MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando (BF) on MRT posts located
in the city.
Makati City Department of Environmental Services
(DES) head Danny Villas said MMDA officials could be held liable for
violating the Makati Solid Waste Management Code or Makati Ordinance
2003-095.
The policy prohibits defacement of walls and
public spaces in the city.
MMDA may also violated Ordinance 93-330 which
considers illegal road signages as obstruction, and allows
confiscation of materials by the city government if they are deemed
as common garbage and can be disposed of.
“We in government should be the first to
observe the law. If we want our people to be respectful of the law,
then people in government should be the ones setting the example,”
Villas said.
On Thursday morning, the DES removed 29 posters
bearing Fernando’s photo from the center islands and giant MRT
posts along the Makati portion of EDSA.
Makati Solid Waste Management Division District
II Area Manager Carlito Lopez said two teams have been deployed to
remove these illegally posted materials.
One team now operate along the southbound lane
of EDSA, from Magallanes approaching Buendia where they removed 12
posters, while another team cleared 17 posters from the northbound
lane, from Estrella approaching Cloverleaf in Barangay Guadalupe
Viejo.
Fernando, called BF by supporters, has lately
made his intent to run for the vice-presidential slot in the coming
2010 election.
