A proud member of the country’s largest home builder, Vista Land
& Lifescapes, Inc., maverick real estate developer Brittany
Corporation recently held the groundbreaking ceremonies for one of
the finest examples of their pioneering spirit and innovative
approach—Avant at The Fort. In attendance were Architect Albert
Yu, Brittany’s vice president Engineer Rodel Racadio, Vertical
Group division head Dada De Guzman, and Architect Joey Mastrili,
among others.
The country’s first vertical development to
utilize the “green” architectural design and sensibilities, it
is situated at the heart of perhaps the last remaining prime spot in
the golden triangle in Crescent Park West at The Fort. But living
green is far more than a mere slogan for Brittany. Taking to heart
the responsibility to nature and the future of the planet, Avant has
incorporated many elements that ensure a healthy environment without
sacrificing comfort and convenience. Architect Albert Yu, of Asya
Design Partner, describes this project as “an expression of
subtlety and precision all with astonishing views. Living spaces are
designed to the contours of real life, evoking the comfort of ease,
refuge and security.”
Landscape architect Paolo Alcazaren further
reinforced the “green architecture” inspiration for Avant.
“The difference of Avant from all other high-rise condo
development is the fact that you are never too far from the outdoors
— aside from the ground level gardens, we have mid-level gardens
and roof-deck gardens — all carrying the same palette of plant
materials so that there’s continuity of experience.”
The building itself is in defiance of
conventional wisdom. A stunning 38- storey structure predominantly
of glass and steel, it will employ the latest in materials and
technology to ensure that it does not become a heat trap which has
become the case in many supposed modern buildings that end up
requiring 24-hour air-conditioning.
“The structure is designed to allow for
cross-ventilation in all floor levels. It has larger windows and
insulated glass so that less air-conditioning is needed. We’ve
incorporated a fence design, what the French call espalier which
allows the greens to come up without blocking the view. Furthermore,
it is oriented in such a way that the garden areas are in the shade
during the harsh afternoon sun. And this proper orientation assures
you that you can use the garden, which is the case of Avant,”
Alcazaren continued.
“Truly ahead of its time, Avant offers the
best blend of urban design, landscape architecture and building
architecture to fit your residential needs,” Vista Land president
and CEO Jing Serrano declared. “The aspects of green architecture
is well-incorporated into the design of the garden, into the
interface of the building and in the design of the individual units.
From now on, all architecture has to be green – sustainability is
not just a catch-phrase; it has to be real. And Avant has taken the
first step to ensure that the design adheres to the frame of green
architecture,” concluded Serrano.
