Celebrity storytellers and
other sweet dreams come true

Star power readings for Public Library Day

The National Book Development Board (NBDB) joined the Quezon City local government in its readership and library promotion campaign Basa Tayo ‘Tay, ‘Nay! in celebration of Public Library Day.

Get Caught Reading endorser and television anchor Rhea Santos, and celebrity couple Harlene Bautista and Romnick Sarmienta read to enthusiastic youngsters from Barangay Payatas and Project 7 in Quezon City and their parents. The stories were from Bakit Matagal ang Sundo Ko by Kristine Canon (Adarna House), Ang Barumbadong Bus by Rene O. Villanueva (Adarna House), and Ang Batang Ayaw Maligo by Pen Alba (OMF Literature). Santos, Bautista and Sarmienta also encouraged parents to read to their children as part of building good reading habits among the youngs.

Santos, a young mother herself, talked of how much she enjoys reading to children. “You can see on their faces their eagerness to listen and to learn,” she said. “Kids should be exposed to books sparks their imagination. They become more creative and imaginative.”

“I Love 2Read: Basa Tayo ‘Tay, Nay!” is a campaign launched by the Quezon City local government to encourage parents to dedicate at least 20 minutes each day reading to their children.

Besides the NBDB, the Quezon City government is also partnering with the Quezon City Public Library, Adarna House, and UP Artists’ Circle in this celebration of the importance of reading.
