CONTEMPORARY Dance Map 2008, the must-see art event this season, has
begun. Conceived in 1982 to celebrate Dance Day every April 29, it
was initiated in Philippines in 2005 by then Choreographers’
Network Chair, Myra Beltran. It is the experimental ground of the
larger festival, Wi-Fi Body Festival, held at the Cultural Center of
the Philippines. The festival serves as the venue for cutting edge
choreography.
It brings together the country’ leading
independent dance companies such as Dance Forum, Airdance, Dancing
Wounded Contemporary Dance Commune, Chameleon Dance Theatre,
University of the Philippines Dance Company, Halili-Cruz School of
Ballet.

• April 16: Uncensored Bodies dance video
screenings with artists’ talk with Sarri Lluch Dalena, Ruello
Lozendo and Myra Beltran at the Magnet Café Katips, 335 Katipunan

• April 19: Not Mine performance by Myra

Chameleon Dance Theatre including retrospective works by Oliver

• April 20: Academe Creates New performance by
the UP Dance Company and HC School of Ballet production at the HC

• April 29: Día Internacional de la Danza
(International Dance Day) at the Instituto Cervantes Manila. Events
include: Danza y periodismo (Dance Journalism) seminar discussing
about issues in writing about dance, with special guest, Amb. Delfin
Colome at 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Coreografías para el Día
Internacional de la Danza (Dancers for International Dance Day) at 7
p.m. featuring perfomances such as “Sepia” by Ava Maureen
Villanueva of Airdance, “Dulce” by Elena Laniog of UP Dance Co.,
“Heavy Side Layer” by Raul Alcoseba of Chameleon Dance Theatre
and a piece by Dancing Wounded Contemporary Dance Commune.
