The controversy surrounding Australian blogger
Brian Gorrell and his alleged former lover, Delfin DJ Montano’s
telenovela-style tale of love, lies, Manila’s high society and the
alleged theft of $70,000, is no longer limited to online followers
who patronize Gorrell’s blog.
In the most recent television coverage of this
matter, Montano said he had filed a complaint of “unjust vexation
and slight physical injuries” against Gorrell for an altercation
which happened between them in October 2007 in Hotel
Intercontinental in Makati.
In an interview with the Philippine Daily
Inquirer dated April 13, Montano said that police invited Gorrell to
the police station where he accused Montano of taking his passport.
However, when the police returned to the Hotel Intercontinental,
they found Gorrell’s passport hidden in a drawer.
“They caught him lying,” Montano said.
In an email interview, Gorrell replied, “The
police did not carry a warrant. They searched my room and me. There
were approximately 15 men there. I was taken to the Makati
Police station for seven hours. I was never charged.”
Gorrell added, “When I was finished at the
police station, the police [five of them, including a sergeant and a
woman] took me to a karaoke bar for three hours. They took me to a
bank machine and asked me to withdraw money. I paid for everything
because I was still terrified, drinks, food and the petrol when we
stopped at the station.”
