THE Philippine Basketball Association will have a two-day outreach
program during the 2008 All-Star weekend in Bacolod City.
Beneficiaries of this year’s mid-season
spectacle are the Bacolod Boy’s Home orphanage and the Gawad
Kalinga Village.
”The PBA is also concern with the social
issues around us that we always make it a point to do outreach
programs whenever and wherever the All-Star festivities will be
held,” said league commissioner Renauld ‘Sonny’ Barrios.
“This is one concrete proof that the PBA is not just all about
basketball.”
The All-Star weekend is scheduled April 24-27 at
the West Negros College.
In between, members of the North and South
All-Star teams will visit the Bacolod Boy’s Home (April 25) and
interact with the orphans. The players will play basketball with the
kids, eat together with them and give away gifts.
The following day (April 26), players and the
rest of the All-Star delegation go to Gawad Kalinga Village and
collectively, build two houses.
Last year in Baguio City, the All-Stars interact
and mingled with the fans as they personally spearheaded in cleaning
and painting the Session Road.
Purefoods star player James Yap leads the South
squad eyeing to make a repeat of its 145-142 come-from-behind win
over the North a year ago. With him in the starting unit are Kelly
Williams of Sta. Lucia, Asi Taulava of Coca-Cola, Magnolia’s Danny
Seigle and Talk ‘N Text’s Jimmy Alapag.
On the North side, comprising the starting five
are the backcourt duo of Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand, the
Magnolia tandem of Mark Pingris and Lordy Tugade and Kerby Raymundo
of Purefoods.
