Deeper into the woods
|
|
THERE is nothing to crow about Standard & Poor’s recent
decision to affirm the Philippines’ credit rating. As things
stand, the country is still considered a pariah in the international
financial community given the its below-investment grade rating.
Despite last year’s two-decade record economic
expansion and the government’s success in trimming its budget
deficit to P12 billion, or way below the P63 billion ceiling for the
period, its bonds or debt papers are still considered junk and fetch
higher interest rates to attract enough investors in these IOUs.
