The Philippine National Police will step up its
campaign against illegal drugs following the arrest over the weekend
of a Taiwanese big-time drug trafficker in Parañaque City.
Agents of the police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special
Operations Task Force and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)
arrested Saturday Chih chien Yang, alias Jeff Yang, in a raid at his
house on 19-B Humility Street, Multinational Village, Parañaque
City.
Yang , who allegedly runs a big-time drug
trafficking operation in the country, was presented on Monday to
National police Chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr., who
commended the agents.
“We shall continue to wage an intensified war
against illegal drugs in coordination with PDEA in order to put
behind bars these big-time operators that supply small-time
pushers,” Razon said.
Razon said Yang’s arrest showed the police’s
resolve to go after criminals involved in nefarious activities like
drug trafficking.
The national police chief also urged policemen
to carry out more operations against drug traffickers.
Investigators said that Yang was also involved
in the illegal manufacture of fake automated teller machine cards
and passports, an activity he allegedly used to raise funds for his
illegal drugs operations.
During the raid, the agents seized some 70 kilos
of a substance believed to be ketamine which were packed in five
transparent plastic bags. The captured drugs have an estimated
street value of P350 million.
The raid was made possible by a search warrant
issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Reynaldo Ros.
