Monitoring team led by Malaysia set to end tour of
duty by September
|
|
DEFENSE Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. sees the
planned pull out of the
Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team (IMT) from Mindanao as
having an effect on the peace process. However, Teodoro remains
optimistic that peace in Mindanao could still be achieved, and that
peacetalks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation
Front (MILF) can still achieve success.
At Malacañang, Executive
Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the administration will seek an
extension of the monitoring team’s tour of duty that is overseeing
the ceasefire agreement between the government and the MILF, which
is set to expire this August.
