CAREER, LIFE, SUCCESS
By Jay Jay Viray
Opening doors of opportunities to southern Philippines

On April 4, 2008, our company JobsDB.com celebrated the official launch of our office in Cebu. Held at the Marco Polo Plaza, the event was graced by more than 200 business leaders and government officials from Cebu City and other nearby cities such as Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.

The celebration was as colorful and awe-inspiring as the culture and tourism of Cebu—the Voice of Cebu delivered a remarkable chorale performance, followed by the grandiose cultural dance presentation of the South Western University Dance Troupe. Our chairman, Samuel Sung, flew in from Hong Kong and rendered a keynote address expressing amazement at how Cebu has developed into a fast-growing industrialized city, and his enthusiasm to serve and contribute to its continuous growth. The last time Sam came to Cebu was 10 years ago.

The kind reception from the Cebuanos, as represented by the response speeches delivered by Cebu City Councilor Eduardo Rama Jr., Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Eric Ng Mendoza, and Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology Executive Director Bonifacio Belen was overwhelming. It made us more excited to extend our services in Cebu.

People may ask: why only now? I believe this is the best time. We recognize the rising need for manpower in Cebu brought about by the tremendous growth of its industries particularly in the field of information technology, education and business process outsourcing. Like Cebu, JobsDB Philippines have prospered well and big, too. And now, we’re more than ready to expand, to establish a strong partnership not only with the businesses and the government but with the talents, as well.

As we land in the Queen City of the South, we aim to open more doors of opportunities for the Cebuanos. Besides the cutting edge-technology in job recruitment and quality customer service, we will bring in The Career and Entrepreneurship Fair (CEF) 2008, which is one of our trademarks events in July. We started this event in 2006 and that’s when we introduced the Career Card, which stores a cardholder’s resume in an electronic database. During the event, a jobseeker, by just presenting her career card can apply to different companies: he need not bring multiple hard copies of resumé. Many jobseekers here in Manila have benefited from this card especially because it doubles as a privilege card.

In addition, we also aspire to support entrepreneurs and freelancers there through 88DB.com, a product of the JobsDB network which provides a platform for free online advertisement. To date, 88DB now has 1,072 Cebuano advertisers. 88DB.com will be joining the CEF to reach to more people.

The JobsDB Cebu office is located at Unit 1001-C, 10th Floor, Keppel Center, Cebu Business Park, with Telephone Numbers (032) 516-2587, (032) 233-4482.
