THE Philippine Bowling Congress will hold qualifying tournaments to
select the country’s representatives in the World Cup slated
November 7 to 15 at the 32-lane Bol 300 Center in Hermosillo,
Mexico.
Filipino bowlers 16 years old and above who are
members of good standing of the PBC are eligible to compete in the
qualifying tournaments to be held in 18 different centers in Metro
Manila and other parts of the country.
Two qualifying periods will be held starting
Monday and on June 20 at Paeng’s Eastwood Bowl, Puyat Sports
Farmers, Superbowl, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM Fairview,
Coronado Lanes (formerly Starlanes), Astrobowl (formerly Metropolis
Alabang), Commonwealth, Grand Central, Paeng’s Freedom Bowl Imus,
Coastal Lanes, Puyat Sports Baguio, Metromall Lanes and Paeng’s
Skybowl.
The top qualifiers for each center at the end of
each qualifying period will bowl free of charge in the center
finals.
The national finals will be held at Coronado
Lanes (September 1 to 2), Paeng’s Midtown Bowl (September 4 to 5)
and Mall of Asia (September 7).
Veteran internationalist Liza del Rosario and
comebacking Paulo Valdez carried the Philippine colors in last
year’s World Cup held in St. Petersburg, Russia.
It was the third time for Del Rosario to make it
to the international finals. She finished runnerup way back in 2001
in Bangkok, Thailand.
Paeng Nepomuceno, Bong Coo, the late Lita de la
Rosa and CJ Suarez are the only Filipino winners of the World Cup so
far, with the lefty Nepomuceno scoring an unprecedented fourth
triumph.
