World Cup eliminations on Monday

THE Philippine Bowling Congress will hold qualifying tournaments to select the country’s representatives in the World Cup slated November 7 to 15 at the 32-lane Bol 300 Center in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Filipino bowlers 16 years old and above who are members of good standing of the PBC are eligible to compete in the qualifying tournaments to be held in 18 different centers in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

Two qualifying periods will be held starting Monday and on June 20 at Paeng’s Eastwood Bowl, Puyat Sports Farmers, Superbowl, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM Fairview, Coronado Lanes (formerly Starlanes), Astrobowl (formerly Metropolis Alabang), Commonwealth, Grand Central, Paeng’s Freedom Bowl Imus, Coastal Lanes, Puyat Sports Baguio, Metromall Lanes and Paeng’s Skybowl.

The top qualifiers for each center at the end of each qualifying period will bowl free of charge in the center finals.

The national finals will be held at Coronado Lanes (September 1 to 2), Paeng’s Midtown Bowl (September 4 to 5) and Mall of Asia (September 7).

Veteran internationalist Liza del Rosario and comebacking Paulo Valdez carried the Philippine colors in last year’s World Cup held in St. Petersburg, Russia.

It was the third time for Del Rosario to make it to the international finals. She finished runnerup way back in 2001 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Paeng Nepomuceno, Bong Coo, the late Lita de la Rosa and CJ Suarez are the only Filipino winners of the World Cup so far, with the lefty Nepomuceno scoring an unprecedented fourth triumph.
