Sixty-nine children participated in a
children’s art competition entitled “Water is Life” at the
Arroceros Forest Park in Manila in celebration of Earth Day 2008.
The contest sponsored by Manulife
Philippines and Winner Foundation was divided into two categories:
Category A for ages 4 to 7 years and Category B for ages 8 to 12.
The winners for Category A are Hamzah Marbella,
1st place; Karla Sumulong, 2nd place; and Chester Aaron Sia, third
place. For Category B, Jeremy Tiongco landed in the first place
followed by Vikram Nakwahl and Axl Lacang on the second and third
place respectively.
While the children were painting, students of
the Vella C. Damian School of Ballet showcased their talents through
a presentation called “The Dance of the Water Sprites”. Nori
Ongsiko and friends provided accordion music and the Harmony Band
sang and played South Sea Island songs.
The panel of judges chaired by Cultural Center
of the Philippines President Nestor Jardin was composed of noted
painter Phyllis Zaballero and portraitist Gig de Pio.
