prices. An executive secretary at an electronics manufacturer, she
is worried her company will apply for an exemption or deferment of
the impending wage hike because in her industry, labor costs account
for 90 percent of overhead.
“As an economics graduate, I see the bigger
picture that if our company has to increase wages, we will be less
competitive,” Leilani said. “I guess they will have to
reallocate resources meant for expansion to salaries.”
