JUST like his own team, Jonathan Aldave took time to rev up his
offensive game.
But the improved performances of Aldave during
Toyota Otis’s resurgent run in the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup
came as no surprise for his coach.
“He’s just a slow starter,” said Sparks
coach Ariel Vanguardia.
In his last two outings, Aldave averaged a
team-high 23 points to fuel back-to-back victories that propelled
the Sparks to the quarterfinals.
The crucial wins gave the Sparks a share of
fourth place at 7-7, a record that kept them in the running for the
remaining twice-to-beat bonus even after a 0-5 start.
“He’s been playing really well,”
Vanguardia said of Aldave, the unanimous choice for PBL Player of
the Week from April 22 to 26.
Aldave keyed the Sparks’ 104-99 thumping of
Pharex last Thursday by unloading 25 points, including a triple that
quelled the Medics’ comeback in the final stretch.
