FORMER world champion Roland Claro of Zamboanga City
stunned reigning Asian Championships titlist Romnick Pabalate in the
main event of the Muay Thai Battle of the Best in Baung La Union
over the weekend.
May Libao, also from Zamboanga
City, won by points over Anna Marie Rey of Cagayan in ladies
division to post her third straight victory.
Mayor Bobby de Guzmano of Bauang
assured Muay Thai Association of the Philippines President Robert
Valdez and Secretary-General Red Dumuk his town is ready for bigger
Battle of the Best.
“With your boxers’ wowing the
capacity crowd, we would be very glad over MAP’s making Bauang a
regular leg of the Battle of the Best,” said de Guzman.
Also topping their respective
divisions were 2007 Asian Indoor Games gold medalist Ruben Sumido of
Iloilo, 2007 Philippine Olympic Festival National Championships
bronze medalist Clint Annawe and 2007 SEAG bronze winner Jay Harold
Gregorio of Zamboanga City.
The tournament’s next stop will
be on May 14 at Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
