For serious freelance writers only

The 2008 PinoyWriters workshop

Are you ready to leap into freelance? Going freelance is a risky but rewarding move. It depends on how you work to achieve something with much worth.

On September 20 and 21, PinoyWriters will conduct a two-day weekend workshop on Freelance Writing: Pursuing a Persistent, Profitable Passion.

Since 2000 PinoyWriters have run writing workshops that aim to help Filipino writers thrive and survive in the world of weaving words. With its thousand and plus members—it saw the need to address the growing needs of writers, particularly those who still continue to fight to have a fulfilling and at the same time have a money-making write life.

Topics include: “Writing is a Gift,” “Write Right Now,” “Writers’ Radical Marketing Mindset,” “How Much are You Worth” and “Writing is all about Building Relationships.”

The P3,000 fee includes handouts, workshop kits and food. The first 10 registrants on or before August 29 will enjoy a discounted fee of P2400, while a PinoyWriter member gets to enjoy a 20-percent off from its base fee. The workshop only accommodates 30 participants.

The workshop is open for writers who seriously will pursue freelance writing as a profession.

“We at PinoyWriters want to hone not just the writing skills, but the mindset too,” Jude Cartalaba, the Marketing Head for PinoyWriters explains. He adds, “We do not want to see writers just wait for opportunities much as it pains us to see those who grumble without even making any effort.”

In the age citizen journalism, blogs, e-zines and indie digital films, the workshop is even more relevant. Technology is democratizing the craft. Now more than ever, timeless literary skills, artistry, ethics and business savvy must be learned. Cartalaba expounds, “Today, there are a lot of venues to write. It’s not just limited to print, movies, television, and radio. The Internet is one vast venue to create opportunities with. If you are an observant individual, which a writer must be, then you will never run out of opportunities.”
