CABANATUAN CITY: Geared toward boosting the local
fruit industry, a state-run university on Saturday forged ties
with a top pomologist to set up a techno-demo center for agri-business.
A memorandum of agreement between
Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology President
Hilario Ortiz and Bernardo Dizon was signed over the weekend for a
sustained training on the culture of high-value fruit trees
such as mango, citrus, lanzones, durian, mangosteen, rambutan,
pomelo (Magallanes, Nenita, etc.) and others by employing
multi-rooted technology.
“The university provides a display
area for Dizon’s fully-grown multiple-rooted seedlings. This
project will surely put the technology on high-value fruit-tree
culture to good use,” Ortiz said.
Dizon’s fruit tree nursery is
the only Department of Agriculture-accredited nursery in Luzon.
“Dizon is one of the
country’s top fruit tree experts. We will also adopt modern
technology for our agriculture courses,” Ortiz added.
