Two peace talks look doomed
|
|
President Gloria Arroyo’s hopes to start 2009
on a bright note on the law and order front appears doomed with the
responses of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the
National Democratic Front (NDF) to her overtures for the resumption
of peace talks with the two anti-government groups.
Last month, she expressed readiness to restart
informal peace negotiations with the NDF in Oslo, Norway, hoping to
end the 40-year violent insurgency of the New People’s Army (NPA).
The NDF is the Communist Party-led coalition of anti-government
groups and the NPA is the military arm of the Communist Party of the
Philippines (CPP).
