ORANI, Bataan: The municipal government of Orani on
Friday announced the awarding any time this month of 108 home lots
out of a total 1,034 reclaimed tracts of land in Barangay Pantalan
Luma. The home lots are intended for the poor of this town known for
tasty crabs and prawns.
Mayor Benjamin Serrano Jr. said
the first batch of 108 family-beneficiaries will be given a lot each
with an area of 65 to 71 square meters under the local
government’s “Lupang Panlingap sa Mahihirap.”
The lots, however, do not come
free. A beneficiary is charged more or less P6,920 per lot payable
in installments.
The Orani mayor said the lots to
be distributed are part of the 10-hectare land for reclamation under
the municipality’s Iguana Resettlement project. He added
that two hectares have been covered with landfill. Eight hectares
are to be filled with soil dredged from a silted river leading to
the Orani fishport. Big fishing boats can pass through the river
only during high tide.
Serrano said they have requested
a dredging machine from Rep. Herminia Roman of Bataan’s First
District to dig the river.
The municipality has formed a
screening committee composed of members from the government and
religious sectors.
An applicant to the home lots
should have a monthly income of less than P10,000. Priority is given
to those from Pantalan Luma.
Serrano said he will announce
later other big projects for the town. Orani has an internal revenue
allotment of P55 million and revenues of about P70 million annually.
