DUBAI: Tiger Woods’ tournament winning streak was in dire danger
of being halted as he entered the final round of the Dubai Desert
Classic on Sunday.
The world No.1 has won his last five events
dating back to the tailend of last year including an eight-stroke
triumph in California last weekend when he opened up his 2008
campaign.
He led after the first two rounds in this
European PGA Tour event but fell victim to a wayward driver in
Saturday’s third round (73) which left him four strokes behind
leader Ernie Els (65) and three behind Swede Henrik Stenson (68).
There could not be a tougher double target for
the American as both are renowed specialists over the spectacular
Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club.
Els is a three-times winner here, the most ever,
and Swede Stenson is a Dubai resident and the defending champion.
Woods as ever has not given up on grabbing a
second Dubai win to go with that of two years ago when he defeated
Els in a play-off, but he did not sound that hopeful.
“I don’t know what the conditions are going
to be tomorrow but I’m going to have to play better that I did the
last two days that’s for sure,” he said.
Six players were tied alongside Woods a further
stroke back including Spanish star Sergio Garcia.
