Dell’s PowerEdge R900 server
is now in the Philippines

Claimed by the Texas-based vendor, Dell Inc. to be its highest performing server, the PowerEdge R900’s Philippine launch was announced at a press briefing recently at the Shangrila Manila Hotel in Makati City.

Jacob Pereira, Dell Inc. Asia Pacific and Japan server platform business manager, told reporters that their PowerEdge R900 is a four-socket quad-core server. It had been designed from the very beginning to run mission-critical databases and programs in businesses and other organizations with large and extensive computer networks.

He added that its robust capabilities also made it ideal for the general computing needs of large enterprise networks.

Pereira, who flew from Singapore for the launch, said the PowerEdge R900 uses the new Intel Xeon 5400 series processors, which run applications faster than servers using the immediately preceding series of Intel Xeon 5300 processors.

Pereira further claimed that the PowerEdge R900 server could generate up to 25-percent savings in power consumption. At the same time, its Trusted Platform Module assured enhanced security for critical information stored in it.

Pereira also added that customization of the PowerEdge R900 would be done by Dell’s factory in Penang, Malaysia. This would be done through arrangements with any of the vendor’s Philippine distributors, namely: Accent Micro Technologies, Integrated Computer Systems, Inc., MDi, Nexus Technologies Inc. and Philippine Data Systems.
