A harmful
distraction
|
|
The President and her key Cabinet
people keep saying that the citizenry should unite behind her
administration which, they claim, is focused on socio-economic
growth and minimizing poverty. They berate the political
opposition and leftist politicians for preoccupying themselves with
the production of “political noise.” This, they say,
distracts the Filipinos from the economic and nationbuilding
work they should be doing—in support of the Arroyo administration
and the country.
“Political noise” also
harms the image of the country abroad, they claim, for it undermines
the President’s drive to attract more and bigger foreign direct
investments. Key administration officials also picture
journalists as villains because they amplify the
opposition-manufactured “political noise” and even aid
communists and military rebels who want to overthrow the government.
