Bomb scare shakes Olongapo City Hall

OLONGAPO CITY: Police authorities evacuated employees and visitors at the Olongapo City hall after receiving information that there was a bomb placed inside the building.

Police Senior Supt. Avelardo Villacorta, Olongapo City Police Office told Manila Times in a telephone interview that their Tactical Operation Center located at Camp Cabal in Barangay Barreto received a text message at around 11 a.m. Wednesday informing them of a bomb inside the city hall, although it did not specify its location.

Villacorta said the message read: “May bomba ako niligay sa city hall ng OC [Olongapo City] bilisan nyo [I placed a bomb inside the City Hall of Olongapo, hurry].” The text message came from a cellular phone with the number 0927-221-6598.

Villacorta deployed K9 units and members of the explosive ordnance division to search the whole building.

The warning turned out to be a hoax and authorities found no bomb. The building was cleared shortly.
