Eight of anything is good. Number your possessions to this figure
and you’ve got prosperous feng shui. Lay this figure on its side
and you have the symbol of infinity and a sign for currency trading.
Ride with this stamped on your license plate and you must be
enjoying congressional perks. Grace the exhibit opening on the
eighth of every month for the year 2008 at Avellana Art Gallery and
you must have impeccable aesthetic sense, an eye for the most
promising artists as well as established masters and a nose for
where the party’s at.
Nestled among the posh American-era bungalows
and shaded by trees and tended gardens, Avellana Art Gallery along
F.B. Harrison Street is a world away from the hurly burl of Pasay.
Come on opening night and enjoy the company of not only the most
prominent and promising artists of today but also interior designers
and fashion designers, some of whom are neighbors of Avellana as
well as writers, dancers and artists of every stripe. Feel the
synergy of artistry, enjoy the company and savor the artworks.
Today, February 8, a day after the Chinese New
Year, Avellana Art Gallery presents its roster of “EIGHT
COUPLES”: Allan Cosio and Ivi-Avellana Cosio, Lao Lianben and
Lilia Lao, Jon and Tessy Pettyjohn, Ferdinand Doctolero and Beth
Parrocha-Doctolero, Dan Raralio and Edna Chan, Jojo Lofranco and
Clairlynn Uy, Dei Jardiniano and Rosario Sanchez, Aaron Palileo and
Joanne Catral-Palileo. Contrast and compare how married artists
complement one another with their works.
Avellana Art Gallery’s exhibits for the rest
of the year are no less intriguing: “8 Treasures” for March 8,
“The 8th” for April 8, “Survey Eight” for May 8, “8x8x8”
for August 8, “Eight Print Makers” for September 8, “The
80’s” for October 8 and “Eight Faces” for November 8.
Breaking his own cadence, Albert Avellana even throws a special
anniversary show, Black Paintings by Lao Lianben, not the eighth of
any month, but on the 12th of June, his birthday. It’s still a
lucky day.
Avellana Art Gallery is at House A-19, 2680 F.B.
Harrison Street, Pasay City. Gallery hours are from Monday to
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For details, call 833-8357.
