PEOPLE
By Bob Garon
Nothing is impossible

Thomas Edison invented the light bulb among other things. What most people do not know it that Edison succeeded in lighting up the world after more than 10,000 experiments. He “failed” thousands of times before success was his. He was fond of saying that he learned thousands of ways NOT to make a light bulb. I visited his home and laboratory in Florida years ago. Displayed there were hundreds of light bulbs that Edison created before finally getting the right one.

I also saw the bed he used to rest a bit when he worked all night on his experiments in the laboratory. All this was a testimony to the tirelessness and the determination of this man. He was more than a creative genius. He was a man driven by incredible energy and purpose. One can say that he was exceedingly passionate about his work.

Having passion for something makes the unimaginable imaginable. When you approach a project with the energy and enthusiasm that passion brings, you greatly increase the odds of succeeding. Your strong determination will give you the staying power to hang on and even drive forward when things go against you. While men with lesser determination drop back, you will continue pushing ahead because of your strong desire to succeed. It is truly amazing how much passionate determination plays in gaining success.

Obstacles will always pop up before you when you least expect them. Headaches and setbacks will surely be part of your journey to the top. When discouragement causes others to retreat, that only makes the passionate person more determined than ever to strive even harder. He is not deterred by stormy waters, he thrives on them.

“I like competition”, said one successful entrepreneur, “it gives me an adrenalin rush and makes me move faster.”

Countless successful persons surprise themselves with their success. They never thought they would do so well. It was their refusal to submit to defeat that kept them moving forward until they achieved their goal. They then learned that the unimaginable is truly possible to the passionately determined person who says no to failure.
