Vietnam targets bigger global roles

HANOI: Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet said Vietnam strives to be removed from the list of developing countries with low income in 2008, and actively acts as a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), central Vietnam Television reported Thursday.

In his Lunar New Year speech, the president said being removed from the list and an active member of the UNSC and the WTO will “lay a foundation for Vietnam to basically become an industrialized country by 2020,” Vietnam Television reported.

Vietnam will keep on accelerating economic growth, raising its economy’s quality, developing culture and society, and maintaining political stability, security and defense for wealthy people, a powerful country, and a fair, democratic and civilized society.

“With their patriotism, industriousness, national unity, spirit and intelligence, Vietnamese people will gain bigger and more comprehensive victories,” he said, noting that Vietnam’s socio-economic development has Become Stronger And Stronger, And The Country’s Status In The International Arena Higher And Higher.
