Oil companies on Friday slashed the price of cooking gas anew after
the contract price for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the
international market continued to soften.
Pilipinas Shell and Petron Corp. on Friday
announced a P0.50 per kilogram rollback on the price of their
cooking gas products. Bobby Kanapi, Shell spokesperson, said that
the reduction was a result of a reduction in LPG contract prices,
which has consistently gone down in the past couple of weeks.
The rollback in both companies’ cooking gas
prices would result to a reduction of about P5.50 in the price of
their respective 11-kilogram LPG cylinders.
Last Saturday, the oil firms likewise decreased
their cooking gas prices by P1 per kilogram. Data from the
Department of Energy showed that as of February 5, the average
retail price of an 11-kilogram LPG tank at dealers’ pick-up price
was hovering between P575 to P613, tapering off from a five-month
increase that stabilized in January at P594 to P650.
The big oil firms’ recent reduction follows a
similar cut by smaller oil firms under the Liquefied Petroleum Gas
Marketers’ Association (LPGMA) on Thursday.
The LPGMA, a group composed of LPG distributors
which operates primarily in Luzon, carries cooking gas brands such
as Omni Gas, Pinnacle Gas, Island Gas, Cat Gas and Nation Gas.
