We congratulate the people and Kingdom of Thailand which have rejoined the community of “electoral democracies.”  Thailand was under military rule for 16 months until this week when King Bhumibol swore in the new government of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and his Cabinet.

PM Samak’s People Power Party and several other parties opposed to the military regime won in last December 23’s election.  That election was by and large free and fair.
