Netopia and Computer-Aided Learning (CAL) recently launched an
online learning portal, which will provide more access to education
for the public.
Calnook, a product of the recent collaboration
among Netopia, CAL and Load Central, is an online learning program
made accessible through prepaid cards.
According to CAL, through the use of prepaid
cards, the reach of web-based education is broadened, complemented
with the growing number of Internet cafes. Like cell phone load
cards, access to the portal will be easy.
With prepaid cards, users can log into the
Internet with their unique user name and password, and can choose
from a variety of courses and gain knowledge or skill of their
chosen course, which they can access at their own convenience.
“Calnook is a revolutionary training tool. It
enables improvement on knowledge and skills without having classroom
training,” said Regina Maria S. Ozoa, senior product manager on
Online Learning at CAL.
Courses offered by Calnook are on Information
and Communications Technology (ICT), business, programming, human
resources, graphics and animation and web design.
Calnook also offers certificate training
courses, which allow users to prepare for the certification exams.
Among these include: Cisco Certifications, European Computer Driving
License, Human Resource Certification Institute Recertification,
Microsoft Certification Courses for Technical Professionals and
Office Specialists, Red Hat Certification for Technicians, Sun
Certification Program and Oracle Certification Program. All
mentioned courses are Tesda-accredited.
Materials are Internet-based and presented
through audio, visual graphics, testing, and printable exercises
with PDF downloadable files for extra practice. After completion of
the course with 70 percent or better, the user can print a
certificate of completion.
Prepaid cards are priced at P300 for two
weeks’ use and P500 for one-month use. Cards will expire after the
chosen duration. At present, Calnook is available in Netopia and
Load Central outlets through electronic pins. Calnook prepaid cards
will be available by March 2008.
