Baguio City: The Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association this
year honors the Number Two man in the Philippine National Police
(PNP), Police Deputy Director General Jesus A. Verzosa, with the
2008 Cavalier Award for Command and Administration.
As PNP deputy chief, Verzosa, a member of the
PMA “Maguilas” Class of 1976, is focused on professionalizing
the police ranks, believing that it will strengthen the police
institution and improve law enforcement in the country.
This year’s Cavalier Award is the second for
Verzosa. In 1995, the alumni association honored him with the
Cavalier Award for Police Operations in recognition of his
“outstanding achievements, professionalism, exemplary leadership
and dedication for public service.”
Before his present assignment, Verzosa was
director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and was
promoted in January 2007 as the chief director. He assumed the
position of PNP deputy chief for operations in the same year. He
became the PNP’s second highest official on October 2, 2007.
Verzosa is credited for having introduced
administrative and policy directions in the same year and
implemented long-overdue reforms in the PNP, particularly the
attrition program.
He was also responsible for the efficient
implementation of the critical provisions of RA 8551, primarily the
Third-level Promotion and placement system.
Verzosa pushed for and implemented the rational
promotions, placements and staffing of the PNP as provided for in
the Human Resource Development section of RA 8551
He also entered into a memorandum agreement with
the Department of Health that resulted in an efficient medical and
health services for PNP personnel.
