Munich: Having breached the milestone 100,000th unit mark in 2006,
BMW Motorrad continued its growth by selling 102,467 motorcycles
worldwide in 2007, resulting in record figures.
Western European markets made the biggest
contribution to the result as sales from BMW’s home German market
declined by almost 9 percent—21,504 in 2007 against 23,617 in
2006. However, BMW Motorrad was able to expand its leadership in the
over-500cc segment (20.4 percent in 2007 against 19.8 percent in
2006) and in the entire market (19.2 percent in 2007 against 18.5
percent in 2006). The second strongest market for the premium
bikemaker was again Italy where BMW sold 14,424 motorcycles last
year. US sales followed with 12,094 units and Spain with 10,382
units.
Emerging once again as BMW Motorrad’s most
successful model in 2007 travel/enduro R 1200 GS and its sibling R
1200 GS Adventure. But because the market knew the GS was due for
revisions, 2007 figures were slightly below those of the previous
year—30,077 in 2007 against 31,138 in 2006.
This year, BMW Motorrad is expected to offer a
varied product range that caters to more customers who can choose
among Sport, Tour, Urban and Enduro models. BMW will also have an
extensive range of accessories and matching riding equipment.
Scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of
2008 is the latest parallel-twin cylinder F 800 GS and the F 650 GS
models. BMW bills the F 800 GS as an all-rounder bike with
outstanding off-road and long-distance qualities. Meanwhile, BMW
says the new F 650 GS is a worthy successor to its popular
single-cylinder entry-level model. The revised R 1200 GS, the R 1200
GS Adventure, the new F 800 GS and F 650 GS will be sold in the
Philippines this year.
Locally, BMW Motorrad dealers are Autozentrum
BMW in Alabang and Autohaus BMW in Libis, Quezon City.
