The “First Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival for Health” with
the theme “Malayo sa Bituka” is a nationwide documentary,
experimental, and short narrative filmmaking contest open to all
amateur filmmakers who are Filipino citizens.
The three-day screening of film entries starts
today, February 18, at the Cine Adarna in UP Diliman, Quezon City.
The film festival is not just a competition but a crusade for better
health awareness. The films and documentaries will be compiled in
video libraries around the country to create a network of resource
centers.
The festival was named after Dr. Honorato
Quisumbing and Dr. Juan Escador, both graduates of the prestigious
University of the Philippines College of Medicine and members of the
Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity. They exemplify the ideals of the medical
profession which is to serve in the name of service.
At stake is P100,000 for the best film. Winners
for the documentary, short narrative, experimental film categories
will each receive P50,000. Winners will also receive a trophy
designed by National Artist Napoleon Abueva.
